Airport Link requires water for its construction and long-term operation. Efficient water use is a priority, and water conservation and recycling will be a key objective.
Our goal is to return recycled water to the community.
A complete water management strategy has been developed and we are continuing to investigate ways to effectively manage Brisbane's water, including:
- Minimising the need for water use by innovative design and effective management (eg. Tunnel boring/dust management by tunnel washing)
- Capturing and treating water from hard surfaces and drains for recycling
- Developing Water Treatment Plants for Kedron and the Northern Busway
- Using a water desalination plant at Bowen Hills during construction
- Harvesting rainwater at Kedron Brook
- Recycling water used during operations and providing for community use (eg. schools, shopping centres, parks)
- Implementing runoff and storm water management controls to minimise pollutants entering nearby creeks and rivers.
